NY to London to Copenhagen -- May 11, 2015

We changed planes in London and arrived in Copenhagen (København) at 12:50 Monday afternoon.  First, we rented a car and went to our "strange-looking" hotel (though the picture below was taken later in the evening).

Then, we went to the Copenhagen Temple.  The Temple is closed on Monday, of course, but we met the Temple President and Temple Engineer (who were picking up some packages that had just been delivered).

Next, we went searching for something to eat.  In Europe, restaurants don't usually open until about 7 pm, so we had our choice of McDonald's or Burger King.  Obviously, we were hoping for something a bit more "Danish," but we chose Burger King -- which was next to City Hall (below).

After eating, we walked around the area.  Tivoli (an amusement park) is across the street from City Hall.

Down the street, we watched a drawbridge in operation.  Most of Denmark is a peninsula extending up from Germany, but it also includes 443 islands.  Copenhagen extends over two of those islands -- Zealand (Sjælland) and Amager -- and the drawbridge connects the two islands.

Not only were cars waiting to cross the drawbridge, but also a large number of bicycle commuters.  The hardest part of "driving in Copenhagen" is watching for aggressive cyclists.

We finished the evening eating ice cream (gelato) and strolling along Nyhavn.  Nyhavn is a 17th century canal waterfront that is still lined with 17th and 18th century townhouses, but also has a plethora of restaurants (not McDonald's or Burger King).
